The Bombay High Court has directed Mumbai Police to prosecute Mumbai Congress President Kripashankar Singh for criminal misconduct under the Prevention of Corruption Act. A division bench of Chief Justice Mohit Shah and Justice Roshan Dalvi today asked Mumbai’s Police Commissioner Arup Patnaik to obtain sanction from Maharashtra’s state government to prosecute Singh. The court also asked the Police to collect documentary evidence regarding all movable and immovable properties of Kripashankar Singh and his family. The court further ordered the attachment of all his immovable properties. The court was hearing a public interest litigation filed by activist Sanjay Tiwari, who alleged that Singh had amassed wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income. The court asked Police to treat this PIL as FIR. In his PIL, Tiwari has alleged that several monetary transactions had taken place between Kripashankar Singh and former Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda, currently in jail for alleged involvement in a multi-crore hawala scam. The court has also asked Police to book Kripashankar Singh’s wife, son and daughter-in-law for aiding the crime. Meanwhile, speaking to AIR, Kripashankar Singh said that he had tendered his resignation on Friday following the Congress party’s poor show in the Mumbai municipal elections. Speaking to reporters today, the Congress leader in charge of Maharashtra Mohan Prakash informed that the resignation has been accepted.
