In Jerusalem, at least 30 people have been injured in a bomb explosion that hit a bus near a bus stop in a Jewish neighbourhood. According to police the device was hidden in a bag by the side of the road near the central bus station. Dozens of ambulances converged on the scene near the entrance to the city. Witnesses said the force of the blast shook buildings over a wide area. Police described the explosion as a terrorist attack. It was the first such bombing in Jerusalem in seven years. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast, which police said was caused by a bomb planted close to Jerusalem's main conference hall and central bus terminal. Prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu postponed his departure for talks in Russia after the incident.
