Bomb explosion in Iran leaves 9 dead

A bomb has exploded in north-western Iran killing 9 people attending a military parade. The event was part of ceremonies marking the 30th anniversary with the country's war with Iraq. Official Iranian media say the bomb exploded among spectators watching the parade in Mahabad near the border with the Kardish region of Iraq. Most of those killed were said to be women and children. The Provincial governor said unspecified counter-revolutionary groups were behind the blast. Mahabad has a sizeable Kardish population and anti-government feeling has been running high there. It seems the attackers targeted people presumed to be supporters of the Iranian government.
