Bomb blast in Karachi near Muharram procession

A bomb blast hit a Muslim Shia Ashura procession killing three people and wounding 30 others in the port city of Karachi, breaching high security and police vigil as millions of Pakistani commemorated Muharram. The bomb blast came close on the heels after militant bombings and suicide attacks had killed eight people in Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir capital of Muzaffarabad and Karachi last night, marking a bloody start of the holiest day on the Shia Muslim calendar. Fire broke out after the blast, fanning thick smoke into the sky and people were running in all directions. TV footage showed the powerful blast occurred as hundreds of people participating in the procession were making their way through M A Jinnah Road, one of Karachi's main thoroughfares.
