Body of missing soldier in Kargil sector of Ladakh recovered

In Jammu & Kashmir, the body of the missing soldier who was buried under snow avalanche in Kargil sector of Ladakh has been recovered today. The rescue teams of Army carried out intense search operations in the area for the last three days and recovered the mortal remains of Sepoy Vijay Kumar from 12 feet deep snow mass. Last Thursday a natural avalanche, triggered by a mild earthquake,hit an Army Post located at an altitude of 17,500 feet in Kargil Sector. Two soldiers who were on surveillance duty were washed away in the avalanche. One soldier was rescued on the same day of initial rescue operation. <br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports that PRO of Udhampur based Northern Army Command, Col SD Goswami told AIR that despite adverse weather conditions, the search operation was carried out for three days with the help of avalanche rescue dogs, deep penetration radars and metal detectors. The spokesman said the body of Sepoy Vijay Kumar will be evacuated to his native place in Tamil Nadu and cremation ceremony will be held with full military honours. He said Sepoy Sujit who was rescued on the first day of the incident, is recuperating in the hospital. Northern Command Army Commander Lt Gen D S Hooda has expressed his profound condolences to the family of deceased soldier.
