Assam Police have arrested Bodoland Peoples Front, BPF MLA Pradeep Kumar Brahma last night from Dotma in Kokrajhar district for his alleged involvement in ethnic violence. State Law and Order IGP L R Bishnoi said that seven cases were registered against Brahma.BPF is the coalition partner of the ruling Congress.
District administration imposed indefinite curfew in the entire Kokrajhar district. Members and supporters of BPF blocked railway line in some places protesting the arrest of Brahma. North East Frontier Railway sources said that movement of eight long distance train including Rajdhani Express affected. Security has been intensified in Kokrajhar district.
Meanwhile, the seven members’ Central team held discussion with State Chief Secretary Naba Kumar Das in Guwahati on relief and rehabilitation measures of the displaced people. The team visited Kokrajhar, Dhubri and Chirang district and took stock of the situation.
Assam government is likely to set up a railway help desk to help those people who have returned home from other states. Railways will start running special trains from September the First to meet the requirement of passengers returning back to their workplaces and educational institutions outside Assam.
