Bodies of two civilians found on South Korean island

The bodies of two civilians have been found on the South Korean island of Yeonpyeong, shelled by the North in Tuesday's attack. The burnt bodies of two men in their 60s were found today on the island, which lies near the disputed inter-Korean Yellow Sea border. According to the South Korean Coast Guard, they were believed to be construction workers. Two South Korean marines had also died, and 18 people were injured when dozens of artillery shells hit the island – most of them striking a military base. The latest TV pictures of the island show neighborhoods reduced to rubble with shops and homes burnt and destroyed. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon called the attack one of the gravest incidents since the end of the Korean War. The US president has pledged to stand shoulder to shoulder with South Korea. In a phone call, President Barrack Obama assured the South Korean president of his country's firm and full commitment to the defence of an ally.
