Bodies of 3 navy personnel recovered from INS Sindhurakshak

Three bodies have been recovered from the ill-fated submarine INS Sindhurakshak in Mumbai. The Navy's rescue and salvage operations are still on to extract other 15 missing personnel. A Defence PRO said that the recovered bodies are severely disfigured and not identifiable due to severe burns. The bodies have been sent to a Naval hospital in Mumbai for the DNA identification.

He said the state of the bodies and condition in the submarine leads to firm conclusion that finding any survivor is unlikely. He said, the damage and destruction within the submarine around the control room area indicates that the feasibility of locating bodies of personnel in the forward part of the submarine is also very remote. He also said that the families of the missing personnel have been contacted and provided regular updates of the situation.

INS Sindhurakshak sank in Mumbai dockyard after explosion and a huge fire late Tuesday night. The rescue and salvage operations have been continuing round the clock for the past two days.
