In China, five people have been killed after a boat capsized in a river in the northwest Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. According to local government officials, the incident took place this morning when the wooden boat carrying two men and 10 women capsized in the Kaidu River in Xinjiang's Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture of Bayingolin. The officials said there were twelve people in the boat during the mishap and seven of them were rescued. Eleven of the passengers were identified as peasants and the 12th passenger was the boat's owner. According to investigators, the boat had deviated from its normal route before it capsized, but the exact cause of the accident is still unknown.
