BMC bans open burning in Mumbai

<span style="color: #222222;">Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation(BMC) has banned open burning in Mumbai. The guidelines issued by BMC clearly state that open burning is not allowed at garbage dumping grounds and possible sites of trash burning.<br />''<br />''Air quality in Mumbai is deteriorating day by day. To mitigate air pollution, BMC issued fresh guidelines today. The guidelines directed all Assistant Commissioners in charge of wards to deploy squads for air pollution mitigation enforcement comprising two (Ward) engineers, one policeman, one marshall, and one vehicle. <br />''<br />''According to guidelines at least 35 feet high tin or metal sheets shall be erected around the periphery of construction projects having a height of more than 70 meters. All construction layouts having an area of more than one acre shall be covered with a tin or metal sheet height of 35 feet.  The guidelines directed that all the under-construction buildings shall be compulsorily enclosed by green cloth or jute sheet or tarpaulin from all sides.<br />''</span><br />''As per the guidelines, the Transport Commissioner shall take action against the overloading of vehicles, uncovered vehicles, vehicles spilling construction materials on roads and heavy-duty diesel vehicles that are more than 8 years old shall be strictly prohibited in Mumbai jurisdiction.<br />''<br />''<br />''<span style="color: #222222;">Guidelines directed the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) to monitor the air pollution emitted from industries such as BPCL, HPCL, RCF, Tata Power and other industries based in nearby MIDC area on a daily basis for the next month and take appropriate action. </span><br />
