Despite the heavy rainfall in Mumbai for the past many days, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday announced 50 percent cut in water supply to the commercial establishments such as malls, five star hotels, and factories among others. Additional Municipal Commissioner of BMC, Mohan Adtani said the decision was taken as an additional measure to use the existing water stock carefully. The civic body however, did not increase the existing 20 percent water cut to the domestic consumers. The Additional Municipal Commissioner informed at the standing committee meeting held in Mumbai that due to low rainfall in catchment areas, on July 16 the collective stock of water in the seven lakes which supplies water to Mumbai has reached 1,11,193 million litres which was 8,80,007 million litres last year.He further said since the existing water stock will last till August end, they will have to cut 50 percent water supply to all commercial establishments. The water to swimming pools will also be completely discontinued. Similarly, the water supply to the gardens too will be stopped.
