In Iraq, Thirty five persons were killed and 140 others were wounded yesterday as a result of a number of blasts that hit the capital Baghdad . Voice of Iraq news agency quoting official spokesperson Qassem Ata has reported that the the series of blasts targeted residential buildings in Baghdad’s areas of al-Shula, Allawi, al-Shurta al-Khamisa and al-Ilam neighborhood .

Several buildings collapsed due to blasts and emergency service workers had to struggle to help the wounded people. This co-ordinated strike follows similar attacks just three days earlier which indicate that insurgents are trying to make a return due to a political impasse after march 7 parliamentary elections in the country. Analysts point out that the bombers targeted residential buildings in mostly Shiite neighbourhoods, which show that insurgents are attempting to ignite sectarian violence in Iraq.

Formation of the new government in Iraq is essential to contain insurgency and it is also seen necessary keeping in view that the US forces will end their operation in the country by the end of 2011.
