Blast in Women’s University bus at Quetta, at least 11 killed

In Pakistan, at least eleven women were killed today when bomb ripped through a bus inside the Women University campus in Balochistan capital Quetta. Less than an hour later, sounds of explosions and firing spread panic and chaos through the Bolan Medical Complex where most of the wounded had been taken.

Reports said at least three explosions and constant gunfire were being heard from inside the hospital.

Police sources reported eight gunmen had taken positions restricting security personnel from entering the premises of the hospital complex. According to the latest reports, three soldiers were killed in the still continuing gun-battle with the militants.

A Quetta police officer has confirmed that Deputy Commissioner Abdul Mansoor Khan, who was wounded earlier, was also killed by shots to the head and chest.

The Quetta attack came hours after militants attacked the resting place of Pakistan's founder Muhammad Ali Jinnah in Ziarat area of Balochistan with rockets. Police officials said the attackers also opened fire following the rocket attacks, in which a policeman was killed.

Presenting the initial investigation report of the attack in the National Assembly today, Pakistan's Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said that the attackers at the resting place of Mohammed Ali Jinnah removed the Pakistan flag and replaced it with the flag of the Balochistan Liberation Army. It may be recalled that Mohammed Ali Jinnah spent his last days in the building, which was declared a national monument by Pakistan government.
