BlackBerry delegation meets G K Pillai in wake of deadline set by govt

A delegation of the Candian makers of Blackberry smart phone, Research in Motion, led by their Vice President Robert E Crowe today met Home Secretary G K Pillai in the wake of the deadline set by the government to make their encrypted data available to the law enforcement agencies for by the end of this month. The government had warned yesterday that failure to do so would result in the shutting down of some of the mobile phone's popular services . Later Mr Crowe told reporters that he was optimistic about resolving the issue.The security agencies had asked the he government to stop those mobile services that cannot be intercepted by intelligence agencies as they could be misused by terrorists and others criminal elements. There are an estimated one million BlackBerry subscribers in the country.
