The Bharatiya Janata Party has withdrawn its support to Shibu Soren- led coalition government in Jharkhand. The decision was taken after the meeting of BJP Parliamentary Board attended by party President Nitin Gadkari. There had been demands from the BJP leaders to withdraw its support to the coalition in Jharkhand after two JMM MPs including Soren voted against the NDA and BJP sponsored cut-motion to the Finance Bill in Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
The JMM leaders had tried to explain that the voting of the two MPs against the cut motion was by mistake and wanted continuance of the BJP's support for the party.
However, the BJP today called Shibu Soren's vote against cut motion a betrayal of coalition ethics. Mr Javdekar also alleged that the government is openly misusing the CBI for its political ends. He said that the Congress used CBI to pressurise political leaders to vote in its favour during the cut motions.
Meanwhile, the Congress today described Shibu Soren's vote against cut motion as being moral and legitimate. Talking to reporters out side Parliament, Jharkhand Congress in-charge Keshav Rao said that Jharkhand Mukti Morcha is a pre-poll UPA ally and there was nothing unusual in his vote being in favour of the ruling alliance. Replying a question on supporting the state government in case BJP withdraws support, Mr Rao said it has not been decided yet.
The JMM, with 18 MLAs, is delicately positioned in the 81-member Jharkhand Assembly where no party has a majority. The Congress and its allies have 25 MLAs while the BJP has 20 while others have 18 seats.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, party leader Ananth Kumar said that a notice of withdrawal of support is being sent to the state governor. He said all the BJP ministers in the Jharkhand government will resign.
