BJP wins trust vote in Maha assembly; Cong terms move unconstitutional; Shiv Sena demands for re-voting

Devendra Fadnavis led BJP Government today succeeded in winning the trust vote. The newly elected speaker Haribhau Bagde decided to take the voice vote and BJP could won the trust vote. Although the decision of the speaker came under fire by Shiv Sena and Congress. Both the parties criticized the decision and Congress has decided to meet the Governor and demanded to take the trust vote again by actual voting and not by voice vote

It was a dramatic day for the Maharashtra assembly right from the beginning to the end. In the morning ending all speculations Shiv Sena announced that it will sit in opposition and also vote against BJP-led Devendra Fadanvis government in the assembly. The last moment decision by Congress and Shiv Sena to withdraw their nominees from the race of assembly speakers post paved the way for the unopposed election of BJP’s five time MLA Haribhau Bagade. At the time of trust vote, state assembly witnessed unprecedented uproar. Amidst slogan shouting by Shiv Sena members Fadanvis government managed to win confidence motion by voice vote.

Shiv Sena and Congress termed this unconstitutional and demanded voting afresh through division of votes. Congress leader Manikrao Thackeray has also criticized the decision and told that all the opposition parties will meet the governor. Congress leader Radha krishna Vikhe Patil said that the Government itself is unconstitutional and the government will have to seek the trust vote once again. Former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan has also demanded re-voting on the confidence motion of BJP government.

On the other hand BJP refuted these allegations and maintained that due process was followed during the trust vote. All though NCP members were present in the assembly they did not get chance to react due to voice vote.

Senior BJP leader Ashish Shelar moved the trust and it was accepted by the voice vote. Speaker Haribhau Bagade also announced that Shiv Sena’s Eknath Shinde will be the opposition leader of the house.
