BJP wins Muzaffarnagar seat, Cong bags Deoband in UP; RLSP retains Bihar's Harnakhi

In a major setback for the ruling Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh, BJP and Congress snatched one seat each from it in the bypolls for three assembly seats. Congress's Mawaia Ali won the Deoband seat by a margin of 3424 votes defeating his nearest rival Meena Rana of the SP. BJP's Kapil Deo Agarwal won the Muzaffarnagar seat while SP's Anand Sen was marginally ahead in Bikapur seat.<br/><br/>In Maharashtra, Shiv Sena retained the Palghar Assembly seat with its nominee Amit Ghoda defeating Congress candidate Rajendra Gavit by 18,948 votes. In Telengana,Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) wrested the Narayankhed Assembly seat in Medak district from Congress with its candidate Bhupal Reddy winning the seat by a margin of 53,625 votes.<br/><br/>In Punjab, ruling SAD won the bypoll to Khadoor Sahib Assembly seat, with party candidate Ravinder Singh Brahmpura defeating his nearest rival Independent candidate Bhupinder Singh by a margin of 65,664 votes. Main opposition parties Congress and Aam Aadmi Party had stayed out of the contest. The bypoll was held as the seat fell vacant after Congress MLA Ramanjit Singh Sikki resigned in protest against sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib last year.<br/><br/>In Tripura, ruling CPI-M today won the Amarpur Assembly by-election in which party candidate Parimal Debnath trounced his nearest rival BJP candidate by a margin of 10,597 votes.<br/><br/>In Karnataka, by-elections were held in Devadurga (ST), Bidar, Hebbal assembly constituencies. While BJP is leading in Hebbal and Devadurga seats, Congress is leading in Bidar. In Maihar Assembly constituency in Madhya Pradesh, BJP's Narayan Tripathi is leading against his nearest Congress rival Manish Patel by over 6000 votes.<br/><br/>In Bihar, an allies of NDA Rashtriya Lok Samata Party ( RLSP) retained its Harlakhi seat in Assembly by-polls. RLSP candidate Sudhanshu Shekhar defeated his Congress rival Shabbir Ahmed by a margin of 18,650 votes. While winning this seat the number of candidates of RLSP in Bihar state Assembly has gone upto two.<br/><br/>Ruling Samajwadi Party's has retained its seat in Bikapur.
