BJP welcomes Telengana state formation; SP, TMC & Left criticize way the bill was passed

In Andhra Pradesh, celebrations broke out in Hyderabad and elsewhere in Telangana region immediately after the Lok Sabha passed the State Reorganisation Bill .

Hundreds of Telangana supporters stormed the streets of Hyderabad to celebrate the occasion. Sweets were distributed and activists of several parties like TRS, BJP, and Congress took out victory rallies. Celebrations were also held at the offices of these political parties. Several activists have paid tributes at the Telangana martyrs’ memorial in Hyderabad. There were celebrations galore at the Osmania University after the passage of the Bill.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy is set to meet the state Governor Wednesday morning. Before that, he has called a meeting of the Party MLAs and leaders.

However the passage of Telangana Bill evoked sharp reactions from different political parties. Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav said, his party is opposed to the bifurcation and his party members will not support it in the Rajya Sabha.

JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav said, he had not witnessed such a bifurcation before. Telugu Desam Party President Chandra Babu Naidu said, all procedures have been by-passed in the passage of Telangana Bill in the Lok Sabha. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi on Monday evening, he said, the main opposition was silent instead of raising objections over the way the Bill was passed.

Science and Technology Minister Jaipal Reddy said that the people of Seemandhra were not meted out injustice with the passage of the Bill. He wondered how could one say that the Bill was not backed by sufficient numbers when even the opposition also supported it.

Textiles Minister K S Rao said, the passage of the Bill is unconstitutional and it will be challenged in the Supreme Court. HRD Minister Pallamraju said, all democratic norms were set aside.

The din in the House against the bifurcation of the state continued till the passage of the Bill. Along with Seemandhra MPs, members belonging to Samajwadi Party, Trinamool Congress and CPIM were in the well raising slogans against state bifurcation. Mr Asaduddin Owaisi and Saugata Roy raised objections over the way the amendments were rejected by voice vote.

They insisted that proper division of votes be taken up for every amendment instead of head count and voice count. However, the Speaker asserted that the amendments were carried out as per procedures. After the passage of the Bill, the House was adjourned for the day. Earlier, the House witnessed three adjournments on the issue.
