BJP top brass meets Advani; leader upset over his Gandhinagar nomination

Amid reports of efforts to persuade senior leader L K Advani to contest election from Gandhinagar Lok Sabha seat, the BJP today claimed that there is no tension in the party on the issue. Briefing reporters in New Delhi, party spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman tried to play down differences on seat distribution and said that all senior leaders are talking to Advani who is seeking to contest from Bhopal. She said differences, if any, are part of democratic process and nothing more should be read into it.

Earlier in the day, party's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and senior leaders Sushma Swaraj, M Venkaiah Naidu and Arun Jaitley met Advani at his residence. Advani is reported to have expressed displeasure over the party's decision to field him again from Gandhinagar instead of Bhopal. He has been representing Gandhinagar since 1991.
