BJP to fight Delhi polls under collective leadership; AAP says main fight between Kejriwal & Mukhi

Political parties are gearing up for fresh Assembly elections in Delhi after Union Cabinet approved the dissolution of the Assembly. While Aam Aadmi Party is projecting Arvind Kejriwal as its Chief Ministerial candidate, BJP and Congress are unlikely to project any leader as the Chief Ministerial candidate.

Delhi BJP President Satish Upadhyay has said that his party will contest the Assembly election under the collective leadership. AAP leader Manish Sisodia has predicted a direct fight between his party and the BJP. He claimed that the contest will be between AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal and BJP leader Jagdish Mukhi. Mr Mukhi has however rejected Aam Aadmi Party's claim that he will lead the BJP in the polls. He said, Aam Aadmi Party is projecting his name out of some compulsion.

Congress leader and former Minister Haroon Yusuf told AIR that his party has been demanding fresh election for the past five months and it will seek votes on the basis of work done in the last 15 years. BJP had emerged as the single largest party in last year's Assembly elections winning 31 seats but fell four seats short of a simple majority.

Aam Aadmi Party formed the government with the support of Congress. The government led by Arvind Kejriwal had resigned in February after the Janlokpal Bill, could not be passed due to opposition from BJP and Congress. Later, President's Rule was imposed in the city keeping Assembly under suspended animation.

The process for the 25th November by-elections to three constituencies, for which last date of nominations is tomorrow, is likely to be cancelled in the wake of dissolution of the assembly.
