BJP terms budget as transformative, Cong describes it as pro-rich

BJP leader and Union Minister Prakash Javadekar described the budget as transformative. He said the budget is pro-poor, pro-farmer and pro-development. The Minister said infrastructure, rural and social development have been given adequate attention in it.<br/><br/>The Congress today termed the Union Budget for 2016-17 as pro-rich. Senior Party leader, Mallikarjun Kharge told media outside Parliament that efforts have been made in the budget to benefit the corporates. He alleged that the budget did not talk much about the farmers.<br/><br/>In an exclusive interview to AIR, Finance minister Arun Jaitley today said government is giving thrust to improve the rural economy. After presenting the budget in Parliament, Mr Jaitley said the rural and agrarian distress are the biggest challenges to the rural economy. Mr Jaitley appealed to opposition Congress to help pass the GST bill in the greater interest of the nation.<br/><br/>Union Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy has termed it a phenomenal Budget. Talking to AIR, Mr Rudy said, the budget has been prepared taking care of farmers, labourers and youth and poor.<br/><br/>BJP President Amit Shah has said the Budget is focused more on farmers, poor and rural areas. He said, Government has done a lot for the infrastructure of the nation. He added that higher allocation for MNREGA and MUDRA schemes show government's intent for the country.<br/><br/>Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has welcomed the union budget. He said that the enhanced thrust on social sectors, skill building and job creations in the budget will help a great deal in fulfilling aspirations of the people. Mr. Chouhan said that target to double farmers' income in five years is a revolutionary step. He said that the focus on agriculture and infrastructure will definitely lead the economy to double digit growth. The chief minister said that the nine pillars outlined by union finance minister Arun Jaitley reflect the vision of resolute government to transform the country. It will further accelerate the growth. <br/>The state Congress president Arun Yadav said that the structure of the union budget is heavily inherited from the UPA government. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier called MGNREGA a monumental failure of the UPA. Now the government gave MGNREGA highest allocation. Mr. Yadav said that Mr. Jaitley said that inflation has come down but what about the prices.<br/><br/>Trinamool Congress leader Saugata Roy said the Budget was dull and uninspiring. Mr Roy said no new idea has been incorporated in it and no attention was paid towards tax and economic reforms.<br/><br/>BSP chief Mayawati said the budget is disappointing for poor, middle class and farmers. She said, only tall claims have been made for the betterment of the farming community in future but there is no mention about the steps being taken by the government.<br/><br/>CPI (M) leader Mohammed Salim said the budget has no substance and mere a speech. He said, it appears that economic challenges have not been accepted by the government. He said, steps to address unemployment were not touched upon in it.<br/><br/>Samajwadi Party leader Dharmendra Yadav has criticised the Budget saying that it has disappointed the farmers and youth. He said, no new idea has been incorporated in the Budget.<br/><br/>RJD leader Jayaprakash Narayan Yadav said no attention was paid to the weaker sections of the society in the budget. He said the Finance Minister has failed to satisfy Parliament over the initiatives being taken by the government to bring back the black money. Mr Yadav said Bihar has been ignored in the budget as well as there is mention of granting Special Status to the state.<br/><br/>Parliamentary Party leader of Biju Janata Dal in Lok Sabha Bhartruhari Mahtab has said that Odisha like states were expecting more from centrally sponsored schemes but there is no mention of it in the budget. He said, the Finance Minister has tried to keep a balance between Farm and Industry sector. Mr Mahtab, however, lauded the announcement of dispute redressal mechanism to reduce litigation. <br/><br/>Pawan Verma of the JD(U) also criticised the budget. He said, common man, middle class and industry have been ignored in it. Mr Verma said, there has been no evaluation of the earlier scheme. He said, nothing has been mentioned regarding waiving off the loan of farmers. Jay Panda of the BJD, however, hailed the budget. He said, adequate attention and fund allocation have been made for the infrastructure.
