The BJP and Telugu Desam Party have formalised the pre-poll alliance in Andhra Pradesh.
Both the parties announced the agreement at a press conference in Hyderabad Sunday afternoon.
Accordingly, the BJP will contest from 8 Lok Sabha and 47 Assembly constituencies in Telangana and 5 Lok Sabha and 15 Assembly seats in the Seemandhra region. Announcing the re-entry into the National Democratic Alliance, TDP President Chandrababu Naidu said it will strengthen the efforts for corruption-free, efficient government at the national level.
BJP leaders Prakash Javadekar, Piyush Goyal and NDA Co-convenor Naresh Gujral hailed the alliance saying that it will usher in a corruption-free India and defeat the congress party.
Meanwhile, local leaders from both BJP and the TDP have lodged their dissent over the alliance. The top leaders have expressed confidence that they will be pacified.
AIR Correspondent reports, the TDP once again joined the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance at the centre but this time it may be with a difference.
Both the BJP and the TDP agreed after prolonged negotiations for the pre-poll alliance in Telangana and Seemandhra regions despite strong protests from within their parties.
The BJP local leaders expressed open dissent against the alliance stating that they are loosing their strong-holds due to the seat adjustments.
With less than 3 per cent vote share in the 2009 elections, the national party could not won a single seat.
But expectations are more this time as one of the champions who supported the cause of the statehood for Telangana, the BJP leaders are heavily banking on the sentiment to expand its vote-base in the region.
The alliance causing worry among them as the TDP’s neutral role played during the bifurcation will consolidate the votes against the alliance.
The TDP local leaders are also worried that despite their best efforts to be the supporters of development in the two regions, the tie-up with the supporters of bifurcation will drive away voters from them in Seeamdhra region.
Now the BJP-TDP tie-up may pave way for further political alignments in next few days especially in Telangana region as the last day for filing nominations in the region will come to an end by 9th of this month.
