The BJP has slammed the Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar for his derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying it shows the culture of grand old party. <br/><br/>BJP President Amit Shah said, he is neither shocked nor surprised by the remarks as this is the culture of the Congress. In a statement, Mr. Shah said, the people of Gujarat will punish what he called anti-poor, anti-Dalit and anti-OBC Congress in this assembly polls.<br/>'<br/>Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said, Aiyar's derogatory remark against the Prime Minister displays a mindset that only one elite family can be a ruler.<br/><br/>Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani has also attacked Mr. Aiyar and said the people of Gujarat will respond to this insult by supporting Vikaswad not Vanshwad. <br/><br/>In a tweet, Mrs Irani alleged that it is the belief and strategy of the Congress to humiliate the Prime Minister for his humble origins and to assert that they are the only one born to reign.<br/> '<br/>Earlier, following the controversy, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi said that party leader Mani Shankar Aiyar should apologize for his comments against Mr Modi.<br/><br/>In a tweet, Mr Gandhi said, he does not appreciate the tone and language used by Mr Aiyar to address the Prime Minister. He alleged that BJP uses filthy language to attack the Congress party, but, the Congress has a different culture and heritage. <br/>'<br/>Soon after Congress Vice President berated him for his remarks against the Prime Minister, Mr Aiyar said, he is not good in Hindi and his words have been misconstrued. <br/><br/>He however, said, if his remarks has some other meaning, he apologizes for that. Talking to reporters in New Delhi, Mr. Aiyar said, he is a freelance Congressman and not the party's official spokesperson.
