BJP today criticized Congress over its stand on GST bill and accused the opposition party of being non-serious over the legislation. Party Secretary Shrikant Sharma alleged that development is not the priority of the Congress and it did not allow Parliament to function. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier reached out to Congress President Sonia Gandhi and former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh but the Congress was never serious about supporting the crucial bill.

Earlier in the day, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu met Sonia Gandhi in a bid to seek her party's support for the GST bill. However, briefing media in the evening, Congress leader Kapil Sibal termed the meeting as optics saying there is no substantial proposal from the government on the issue.
