Amidst growing tensions between Shiv Sena and BJP, the Shiv Sena party leader Vijay Auti today filed his nomination to contest for the post of Maharashtra Assembly Speaker. With this, the stand off between Shiv Sena and BJP continues as BJP's Haribhau Bagade had already filed his nomination for the same post.
Meanwhile, the congress has also entered into the close contest for the Speaker's post by fielding Varsha Gaikwad for the post. Speaking to reporters in Mumbai this morning, Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President Manikrao Thackeray asked NCP to support the congress candidate for the Speaker's post.
The NCP had yesterday announced that it will not be fielding any candidate for the post. The deadline for filing of nomination for the Speaker’s post will end today at 3 pm and the new Speaker will be elected tomorrow.
The Sena had yesterday staked claims to the post of the Leader of Opposition in the state assembly while maintaining that negotiations on power sharing will continue with the BJP until a final settlement is reached. The special three day session of the Mahartashtra assembly will end tomorrow with the trust vote which will determine the future of the Devendra Fadnavis led BJP Government in the state.
