BJP demanded that the Government should make a statement on the floor of Parliament on the issue of appointment of the Lokayukta in Gujarat.

Briefing reporters in New Delhi on Tuesday, party spokesman Shahnawaz Hussein called for immediate withdrawal of the notification appointing Justice R L Mehta as the Lokayukta by the Gujarat Governor.

Mr Hussien said that his party wants smooth functioning of both the Houses and urged the government to take steps to end the logjam as early as possible.

He said that senior BJP Leader L K Advani also made a similar demand during his talks with the Leader of the House in the Lok Sabha, Mr Pranab Mukherjee.
