BJP seeks action against Kamat in Goa minisng scam

The Goa unit of the BJP has demanded that an FIR be filed against former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, following his indictment by the Justice MB Shah Inquiry Commission in the multi-crore illegal mining scam.

Addressing a press conference, President of the local Unit of the party Laxmikant Parsenker said in Panaji the Shah Commission had made a reference about the former Chief Minister along with others responsible for the scam in the report.

The panel has recommended action against officials of the Mines Department, Goa Pollution Control Board, Indian Bureau of Mines, Forest Department, and the Ministry of Environment and Forests besides filing of criminal cases against mine owners and recovery of losses caused to the state exchequer.

The report has pointed out that illegal ore worth Rs 34,935 crore was extracted from 578 hectares of encroached land in the state.
