BJP says alliance with Shiv Sena in Maharashtra not at the cost of self respect

BJP has hardened its stand over seat sharing agreement with Shiv Sena for the upcoming assembly elections.

The party asked its oldest ally to agree on a seat-sharing formula or be ready for snapping of ties.

Party sources said that senior BJP leaders have communicated to Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray to decide at the earliest whether his party is willing for a mutual and respectable seat-sharing formula.

The BJP's tough talk comes against the backdrop of party President Amit Shah's strong indication this morning in Kolhapur in Maharashtra that there will be no compromise at the cost of self-respect.

Sources also said that BJP is upset that Shiv Sena has not given any response to the proposal sent by it on the higher number of seats it wanted to contest in the elections.

Earlier, Thackeray had rejected BJP's demand for 135 of the 288 seats.
