BJP releases second list of candidates for Assam polls

In Assam, the BJP has released its second list of candidates containing 54 names for the two-phased Assembly polls scheduled to be held on 4th and 11th of the next month in the State. The list was finalized at a meeting chaired by party president Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi last night. The party had earlier announced the names of six candidates. According to party sources, the third and final list of the contesting candidates for the State polls will be announced on 9th of this month.The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has also announced the names of 17 candidates for the ensuing Assembly elections. Releasing the names at a press conference in Guwahati yesterday, the Party’s state secretary Mr. Uddhab Barman said his party will have electoral understanding with other Left parties like CPI and CPI (ML).Meanwhile, hectic political activities are going on in the ruling Congress party to finalise the candidates’ list for all the 126 Assembly segments in the State. The party has decided to fight the State polls alone without forging any alliance with other parties. The party’s first list of contestants is likely to be released on 13th of this month. The major opposition- Asom Gana Parishad will declare its second list of nominees by 7th of this month. The party has already released the first list of candidates containing 31 names.The notification for the first phase of polls in the State will be issued on 10th of this month.
