BJP rakes up corruption allegation against Ashok Gehlot's brother

BJP today raked up corruption allegation against senior Congress leader and former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot's brother to corner the opposition party. Mr. Gehlot is the Congress In-charge of Gujarat and key in fine-tuning party's strategy in ensuing assembly elections.

A news website published a report last week alleging that during 2007-09, a firm owned by Mr. Gehlot's brother imported tonnes of Muriate of Potash which was meant for farmers. The fertilizer was subsidized by the government to the extent of 60 percent.

But, instead of giving Potash to farmers, the firm exported the same by changing the package which was not allowed for export.

Briefing reporters in New Delhi, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar cited a report by Kandla Customs Commissioner which had found during the probe that the firm and the associated people were involved in a syndicate that caused loss of crores of rupees to the government exchequer. He questioned the Congress over the issue and sought an answer from it and Mr. Gehlot.
