BJP poll committee meet underway; Advani, Modi names likely to be announced from Gujarat

BJP's Central Election Committee meeting is underway in New Delhi to finalise the list of candidates for Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and the remaining seats in Bihar and UP for the Lok Sabha elections.

Top party leaders Sushma Swaraj Rajnath Singh , Nerendra Modi are attending the meeting. However, BJP veteran leader LK Advani is not present at the meet.

A decision on the seats from where Narendra Modi and L K Advani will contest in Gujarat is expected to be taken in the meeting. Gujarat unit of BJP has suggested the name of Mr. Advani from Gandhinagar constituency. State BJP spokesman Vijay Rupani said that the party has proposed only one name instead the panel of three for Mr. Advani who is also sitting MP.

Meanwhile, amid speculations that Mr.Advani may choose Bhopal seat in Madhya Pradesh instead of Gandhinagar, party may field Mr.Amit Shah from Gandhinagar seat. Our Ahmedabad correspondent reports that the state BJP unit also wants BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi to contest Lok Sabha polls from Gujarat in addition to Varanasi.

Party may field Mr.Modi from Ahmedabad East or Vadodara as second Lok Sabha constituency for him.
