The BJP Parliamentary Board has rejected senior leader LK Advani's resignation from all party posts. At an urgent meeting held at the residence of party president Rajnath Singh last night, the Board unanimously rejected Mr. Advani's resignation from the Parliamentary Board, the National Executive and the Election Committee. Briefing media persons after the meeting, Mr. Rajnath Singh said the party needs Mr. Advani's guidance more than ever before.
Soon after the meeting, senior leaders Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley, Ananth Kumar and Ravi Shankar Prasad met Mr. Advani to inform him about the Parliamentary Board's decision. Mr. Advani had quit all party posts yesterday, a day after the party ignored his reservations against Narendra Modi and appointed the Gujarat Chief Minister as head of the BJP's Campaign Committee for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
Reacting to Mr Advani's resignation, JD(U) President Sharad Yadav described it a serious matter and said the party will discuss the issue.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK leader Jayalalitha termed the issue an internal matter of the BJP.
RSS leader MG Vaidya said, all is not well in the BJP but the Sangh will not directly intervene in the crisis unless asked by it.
Congress General Secretary Janardhan Dwivedi said Mr. Modi's appointment as campaign committee chief is the beginning of the degeneration of the BJP
