Bharatiya Janata Party – BJP’s two-day national executive meeting began in Mumbai yesterday. Many prominent members of the BJP including senior party leaders L K Advani, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley, Narendra Modi, Rajnath Singh, Venkaiah Naidu are attending the meet. The meeting will conclude today.
Our Mumbai Correspondent reports that addressing his partymen yesterday during the two-day national executive meeting, BJP President Nitin Gadkari said that the party should focus on three main areas in order to make a comeback bid at the Centre in 2014.
He said that the party should increase its vote share by 10 per cent, and concentrate efforts on building a base among the poor, the minorities and Dalits. He added that the National Democratic Alliance should be expanded by bringing in other like-minded parties.
During the meeting, the party also passed a resolution concerning India’s agriculture sector including giving the agriculture and irrigation sector more financial assistance from the Centre.
The resolution added that economic welfare of farmers should be ensured by providing them with separate bank accounts that can be used for direct money transfer instead of availing subsidies.
Meanwhile, the BJP yesterday also passed a resolution amending the party constitution and thereby allowing any BJP President to be re-elected for a second stint. Mr. Nitin Gadkari is expected to get a second stint as BJP’s President after his term ends in December.
