BJP National Council has ratified Amit Shah's appointment as new party president.
In his first address as party chief, Amit Shah said only in BJP, even the most ordinary worker can rise to be the party President and Prime Minister. Earlier, the outgoing President Rajnath Singh gave all credits to Amit Shah for BJP's victory in Lok Sabha polls in Uttar Pradesh. He also said that he is satisfied with his tenure as BJP Chief.
BJP National Council is meeting in New Delhi today to discuss issues related to party organization.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will give concluding remarks in the evening. Senior party leader L K Advani, Union Minister Arun Jaitley and Chief Ministers of party ruled States are also scheduled to address the meeting.
It is the first National Council meeting of the party after its victory in the Lok Sabha elections and formation of government at the Centre. The council will adopt a resolution that will focus on the political and economic issues as well as the initiatives taken by the BJP-led government at the centre and its roadmap ahead. The meeting is significant in view of upcoming Assembly elections in Haryana, Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashimr.
In his address, party leader and Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley without naming Congress said that the Lok Sabha polls have demonstrated that voters can not trust a party with a weak leadership and not capable of taking decisions. He alleged that previous government was indulged in vindictive politics and BJP President Amit Shah was targeted by it.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah inaugurated the Council. Mr. Modi will give concluding remarks in the evening. The council will also adopt a resolution that will focus on the political and economic issues as well as the initiatives taken by the BJP-led government at the centre and its roadmap ahead. Around two thousand BJP office bearers from different states are attending the meet.
