BJP Legislature Party Leader being elected in Panji

In Goa, the Legislature Party Leader of BJP is being elected in Panji this afternoon. All newly elected members of the party have been called to attend the meeting. The Party in alliance with MJP won 24 seats in the 40 Member House.

Speaking to reporters in Panaji on Tuesday evening, BJP leader Mr. Manohar Parrikar told that following this there would be another meeting of the BJP-MGP combine to chalk out the next course of action with regard to formation of the new Government in the state.

Meanwhile, the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee Spokesman Mr. Shantaram Naik told media persons that the party has accepted the verdict of the people and it would perform the role of constructive Opposition in the Assembly.

The party is also likely to appoint a high-level committee to look into the causes of the debacle in the elections and come out with the remedial measures with regard to political strategy, he added.

Chief Minister Mr. Digamber Kamat submitted his resignation of the post on Tuesday even before completion of the counting process.

Earlier, the BJP emerged as the single largest party in the State Assembly Elections. It bagged twenty one seats along with its combine partner Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party winning three seats out of the total forty seats securing the unprecedented mandate.

The ruling Congress could manage to win only nine seats while the alliance partner Nationalist Congress Party drawing blank.

All India Trinamool Congress Party which tried to make maiden foray into the state could not even open the account. Goa Vikas Party got two seats while the independents claimed five seats.
