BJP leaders have backed Party Chief Nitin Gatkari facing allegations of dubious funding of his companies but Congress calls it the double standard of BJP.
In a statement on Wednesday, BJP leader L K Advani lauded party President Nitin Gadkari's offer to face an inquiry into allegations but stated that BJP should not claim immunity on either scale or nature of the allegations. Leaders of Opposition in both Houses Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley also stood by the BJP president and said it is unfair to accept these charges without a probe for which he has already offered himself.
Congress has termed BJP leaders Backing Gadkari as double standard of BJP. Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari sought a parallel between the controversy surrounding Gadkari and the cash on camera scandal involving former BJP chief Bangaru Laxman and said when the BJP or its leaders are in the zone of questioning, the argument of political vendetta is conveniently trotted out. But, when it involves a non-BJP personality, they shoot from the hip without responsibility and restraint, he said.
Tiwari said there are questions on the BJP chief's role and one cannot come out of the shadow of these questions by levelling allegations on others. He said there is only one way that the government probes the matter.Rashid Alvi also of Congress said instead of giving explanation on the allegations, Advani is congratulating Gadkari.
