BJP leader Navjot Singh Siddhu today resigned from the Rajya Sabha. He was nominated to the Upper House in April this year. Deputy Chairman P J Kurien announced in the House that his resignation has been accepted. <br/><br/>Siddhu's resignation came amid speculation that the cricketer turned politician may join Aam Aadmi Party in view of upcoming assembly elections in Punjab. <br/><br/>He has been critical of Akali Dal – BJP government in the state and he was reportedly upset with his own party. Later in a statement, Siddhu said his nomination in the Rajya Sabha was merely a burden adding that the purpose behind it stands defeated now.<br/><br/>He said, at the behest of Prime Minister, he had accepted the nomination for the welfare of Punjab. Saying that Punjab's interest is paramount, Sidhu said, one cannot afford to be neutral in the war between right and wrong. <br/><br/>Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi party leader Sanjay Singh, who is looking after party's Punjab affairs, said Siddhu has taken the decision to make a better Punjab. On a question whether he will join the AAP, Mr. Singh said a formal announcement will be made when the time is right.
