BJP in LS raises issues of Chidambaram's remarks on Afzal Guru

In the Lok Sabha, BJP today raised issues of Congress leader P Chidambaram's remarks on Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru and comments by former Home Secretary G K Pillai over Ishrat Jahan encounter case. Party MP Anurag Thakur sought clarification from the Congress on the matters accusing that it was a conspiracy to frame the then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi in the encounter case.

G.K. Pillai had claimed that the Congress had intervened in the investigation in the Ishrat Jahan case. He added due to the political interference the reference to the Lashkar-e-Taiba terror group was deleted from an affidavit filed in the Supreme Court naming Ishrat Jahan as a terrorist in 2009. Mr. Chidambaram had said there were grave doubts about the extent of Afzal Guru's involvement in Parliament attack case.

Congress objected to expunging the words RSS, Nathuram Godse and reference of BJP MLA O P Sharma from the party MP's speech in the Lok Sabha during discussion over the JNU sedition row and the suicide of a Dalit student in Hyderabad University. Just after the Question Hour, party leader in the House, Mallikarjun Kharge raised the issue demanding some reference made by BJP MP Mr. Thakur regarding Sonia and Rahul Gandhi should also be expunged. Replying to it, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan said she will look into the matter.
