BJP today hit out at Congress for questioning the Election Commission for not announcing Gujarat Assembly polls along with Himachal Pradesh. <br/><br/>The party said, in 2007 and 2012 also, when Congress was in power at Center, the polling in the two states was conducted on different dates. <br/><br/>Briefing reporters in New Delhi, senior party leader and Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said, the way fingers are being raised on Constitutional bodies including Election Commission without any basis, is uncalled for. <br/><br/>Mr. Prasad also took a dig at Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi's recent visit to temples in Gujarat saying people vote on the basis of work not on such things. He also alleged that the UPA government tried to stop the completion of Sardar Sarovar Dam in the state. <br/><br/>On solar scam in Kerala, Mr. Prasad demanded a fair and time-bound probe. He said the Commission, set up by the Congress government, has found the former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy guilty.<br/><br/>Congress accused the BJP of pressurizing the Election Commission, EC to defer the announcement of poll schedule for Gujarat assembly. <br/><br/>Briefing media in New Delhi, party spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi alleged that BJP has – what it called – denigrated the authority and power of the EC. <br/><br/>Mr Singhvi also said, it seems that the Commission has handed a rope to the BJP to somehow climb the cliff at a time when it is down and is looking to somehow lure the electorate with sops. <br/><br/>He said, within ten minutes of ECs announcement, BJP ruled Gujarat government announced sops worth hundreds and crores of rupees. <br/><br/>The spokesperson said, since 1998, both Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh have gone to polls together barring 2002-03 due to Gujarat riots.<br/><br/>CPI(M) has termed the Election Commission's decision not to announce the poll schedule of Gujarat Assembly elections along with Himachal Pradesh as strange. <br/><br/>The party said, this has been the general practice so far make joint announcement, when elections are due within a period of six months. <br/><br/>In a statement, party Polit Bureau said the Commission has announced that Gujarat polls will be held before the results of Himachal Pradesh are declared on 18th of December. <br/><br/>The party said, it is even stranger, if Gujarat polls are to be completed by this date, then why the Model Code of Conduct was not enforced for that state as well.
