BJP hits back at Sonia Gandhi over remarks against Sushma Swaraj

BJP today came down heavily on Congress President Sonia Gandhi over her remarks that External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj staged a drama while making a statement in the Lok Sabha on Lalit Modi controversy. It termed the comments as an insult to the mandate of the people.

Talking to reporters in New Delhi, party leader and Union Minister Smriti Irani questioned whether Ms. Gandhi wants to say that Parliament is a theater. She alleged that by making such comments, the Congress leadership is trying to demean the dignity of Parliament.

Ms. Irani also said that Ms Swaraj's speech is a challenge for the opposition to get proof against her in the Lalit Modi matter. The Minister attacked Congress for the protest of its youth wing against the Lok Sabha Speaker over suspension of its MPs. She said the party workers are protesting by taking off their shirts which is disrespect of the Speaker, who is a woman.

Ms Irani also alleged that by continuously disrupting the proceedings in Parliament, the opposition party is blocking the development and economic reforms.
