BJP gain majority in Bangalore local body elections

Bharatiya Janata Party has gained majority in the Bangalore local body elections by winning 112 seats out of 196 announced till now. Congress got 62 seats and Janatha Dal(S) trailed behind with 15. This is the third straight victory for Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa during whose tenure his party won majority seats in Assembly and Lok Sabha elections. Expressing happiness over the party performance, the Chief Minister announced that his government will spend 22,500 crore rupees for the development of the city in the next three years. He also added that ponds and water bodies in the city will be replenished and solutions evolved to reduce traffic congestion. He further said they will meet Railway Minister Mamatha Banerjee with a request to take up circular rail in the city for which State is ready to spend half the project cost. Both Congress and JD(S) leaders have alleged that low percentage of voting and use of money and muscle power by BJP were the reasons for their poor show in the civic election.<br/>
