Earlier also, they had held consultations among themselves over the issue. AIR correspondent reports that with just two days left for nomination process for election to the highest constitutional post, political parleys have begun to select country's next President.

While the ruling BJP has set up a Committee to forge consensus on the issue, the Opposition parties have also set in motion consultation process. The BJP has been assiduously wooing its NDA allies including the Shiv Sena and other regional parties like AIADMK, Telugu Desam Party and Telangana Rashtra Samiti to support their choice. Congress is also looking to wrest regional support to edge past NDA. However, JD(U) President and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar feels that the opposition should field a candidate only when attempts to field a consensus candidate fail.

The filing of nomination for the election will begin on 14th of this month and continue till 28th of June. If needed, the poll will take place on 17th of July.
