BJP today fielded Union Ministers belonging to Dalit community and party MPs from Gujarat to counter the opposition attack over the issue of Dalit atrocity in the state.

It accused the Congress and the BSP of playing politics over the Una incident in view of upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.

In a joint briefing along with Union Ministers Arjun Ram Meghwal and Krishna Raj, Social Justice Minister Thaawar Chand Gehlot termed the incident as condemnable saying state government has taken prompt action against the culprits.

He appealed to the dalit community to calm down and not do anything which can vitiate the atmosphere.

Reacting to reports that Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejrwial are likely to visit the area, Mr. Gehlot questioned why they did not visit Kerala and Uttar Pradesh when dalit atrocities took place there in the recent past.

He also dismissed allegation against RSS over the incident saying Sangh Parivar has nothing to do with it. Recently, some dalit youths were thrashed on suspicion of skinning a cow which led to violent protests in the state.

Mr. Gehlot also took a dig at Mr. Gandhi over TV camera showing him sleeping this morning during a debate in Parliament on Una incident.

The Minister said they really do not want to provide justice to the victims and if they had such intentions, the Congress leader should have been awake. However, Congress has denied that Mr. Gandhi was sleeping.
