BJP emerges single largest party in Goa

In Goa, Bharatiya Janata Party has emerged as the single largest party in the State Assembly Elections. It bagged twenty one seats along with its combine partner Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party winning three seats out of the total 3 seats.

The ruling Congress could manage to win nine seats while the alliance partner Nationalist Congress Party drawing blank. All India Trinamool Congress Party which tried to make maiden foray into the state this time could not even open the account. Goa Vikas Party got two seats while the independents claimed five seats.

The people of Goa have given a clear mandate in favour of the BJP-MGP combine which would enjoy comfortable majority of twenty three seats in the forty-member house. Leader of Opposition Mr. Manohar Parrikar and party state unit chief Mr. Laxmikant Parsekar and former Minister of the MGP Mr. Sudin Dhavalikar were also re-elected from the combine.

The prominent leaders including Assembly Speaker Mr. Pratapsingh Rane, Deputy Speaker Mr. Mauvin Godinho and Chief Minister Mr. Digambar Kamat and his cabinet colleague Mr. Vishwajit Rane were successful in retaining their respective seats while Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Mr. Subhash Shirodkar along with the prominent Ministers Mr. Ravi Naik, Mr. Manohar Ajgaonkar, Filip Neri Rodrigues,Mr. Aleixo Sequeira and Mr. Churchill and Joaquim Alemao lost their seats. Former Minister Mr. Anatasio Monserrate and his wife Mrs. Jeniffer is the first couple to make the historic entry into the Assembly.
