BJP distances itself from an event to honour Muzaffarnagar violence accused

In Uttar Pradesh, the BJP has distanced itself from a programme in Amroha in which riot accused party workers were to be honoured in Amroha today. The programme, however, is being carried out by Arya Up pratinidhi Sabha, Amroha, in which eighty party workers who were sent to jail on the charges of rioting in Kanth of Moradabad on July 4th this year, are being honoured.

State BJP president Dr LK Vajpayee has not reached Amroha to attend the event as announced earlier. Dsitrict BJP chief of Amroha Girish Tyagi said that the honouring of the jailed party workers is not being done by the party. Sources say that sensing a backlash and attracting criticism from various corners, the state BJP withdrew itself from organising the event.
