BJP demands withdrawal of FDI in multi-brand retail sector

The BJP on Monday demanded that the government should immediately withdraw its decision of allowing Foreign Direct Investment, FDI, in multi-brand retail sector. The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Mrs Sushma Swaraj told reporters in New Delhi that there is no consensus on the FDI issue in the country. She said, even within the UPA, there is a division on this issue. Mrs Swaraj made it clear that there is no need for calling an All Party meeting if the government withdraws the decision on FDI.

Mrs Swaraj alleged that the ruling Congress party is not interested in the smooth running of both the Houses as it wants to shy away from important issues like black money, price rise and Lok Pal. She said that the entire opposition is united on FDI issue and they had given separate notices for adjournment motion on Monday. She said, even some of the parties like Samajwadi Party and BSP have also given notices in this regard.

The Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mr Arun Jaitley said that various notices for moving adjournment motion were given in accordance with the rules and procedures of Parliament. He alleged that the government's attitude towards these issues is against the Parliamentary rules.
