The BJP has demanded resignation of Law Minister Salman Khursid, who was censured by the Election Commission for violating the model code of conduct on the issue of sub quota for minorities during electioneering in Uttar Pradesh.

Briefing reporters in New Delhi, Senior Party leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said that the decision of the Commission has proved to be historic chapter of Indian democracy.

The Congress party meanwhile downplayed the Election Commission's censure of Mr Khurshid for violation of model code of conduct.
