BJP demands J&K govt to withdraw tax on helicopter services

BJP today demanded the Jammu and Kashmir government to withdraw its decision to impose tax on commercial helicopter services in the state, which will mostly impact Amarnath and Vaishno Devi pilgrims availing the chopper service. BJP Secretary Shrikant Sharma told media in New Delhi that his party, which is a junior partner in the state government, has registered a strong protest with the Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on the issue. He said the BJP has sought an immediate withdrawal of the order.<br/><br/>The PDP- BJP government has decided to impose 12.5 per cent service tax on chopper services. Reacting to it, Congress criticized the J&K government for its decision . Talking to reporters, party spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi likened the tax with 'Jizya', a tax imposed on Hindus during Mughal period.
