The BJP today made it clear that its opposition to allow Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the multi-brand retail sector is non-negotiable and called for its immediate roll back.
Talking to reporters in New Delhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Mrs. Sushma Swaraj said that in order to end the ongoing logjam on the issue in Parliament, the government should allow the adjournment motion on FDI for which notices were already given. She said the government can also allow a discussion on price rise and black money but not before taking back its decision on FDI.
Mrs. Swaraj said that some of allies of the ruling UPA like Trinamool Congress, DMK and the Muslim League have also opposed to the government’s decision on FDI and its timing at today’s All Party Meeting.
She said the Leader of the Lok Sabha and Finance Minister, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee had sought time saying that he would discuss with the Prime Minister about the views of the opposition leaders.
