The Opposition BJP today demanded a CBI probe into the cash for votes issue. Participating in the short duration discussion on the issue in the Lok Sabha, the leader of the Opposition Mrs. Sushma Swaraj demanded filing of fresh FIRs against those who have been named by the Parliamentary panel that probed the cash for votes issue. Strongly criticizing the Prime Minister, Mrs. Swaraj said that any electoral victory cannot condone any criminal offence. She claimed that the tapes about the alleged scam have been found genuine after the forensic tests. Mrs. Swaraj charged the Prime Minister of misleading Parliament on the cash for votes issue. Initiating the debate the CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta demanded a thorough probe by an appropriate agency to look into the issue. He charged that the recommendations by the Parliamentary panel were not taken forward deliberately to save some political managers and business persons. The CPI leader said that corrupt practices were adopted to win the trust vote in 2008 by the then UPA-1 government. He also referred to absence of about 19 members largely from Opposition during the trust vote. Dismissing the Opposition claim, the Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mr. Pawan Kumar Bansal charged the opposition of holding the parliament hostage by disrupting the proceedings.
